irty dishes are just one of the inescapable facts of life, kinda like taxes and a TIDY app cleaner always doing a great job. Store-bought dish soaps can sometimes contain chemicals that you’d rather not have in your kitchen, especially around young children or animals.

It’s also a great learning activity to make all kinds of homemade products from things you might already have lying around the house. Homemade products are also very eco-friendly and allow you to reuse bottles instead of buying more each time.

Making a non-toxic and less chemical-filled dish soap at home is also much easier than you might think. We think that whether you use it regularly or not, it’s a great trick to have up your sleeve.

Ingredients:

● ½ of a bar of soap (grated)

● ½ a cup of boiled water

● ½ tablespoon of white vinegar

● Scented oil (optional)

Method:

● Start off by mixing the water and the vinegar in whatever bottle you’ll be using to store the soap in. Give it a good shake to make sure it’s all well mixed.

● Then add the grated bar soap and mix it again. Not every bit of soap needs to have dissolved, but most will. Don’t worry if there are some bubbles at the top, that’s normal.

● The final step is to add any scented oils you may want to the mix. We recommend a milder scent for dish soap, as dishes that smell strongly of lavender might be great to smell, but not so good when you want to eat dinner off them.

If you don’t have soap bars around, then some all-purpose cleaning soaps can be used, but we’d recommend only using simple soaps. Similarly, distilled water will work very well in place of boiled water, as long as the water is pure it will be fine.

For an all-round clean to leave your home as sparkling as your dishes, make sure to download the TIDY app and book your first clean with one of our professional cleaners in your area.
